Squash

The McLean Racquet and Health Club is proud to welcome our new squash pro, Jay Naseem!

squashI currently oversee 5 National Capital Squash league teams as well as over 250 active players across the clubs.  I coach juniors and adults who are among the top rated players in their division.

My players  develop a life-long love of squash and a healthy lifestyle by developing a sense of fair play along with skills and the intellectual and physical discipline required to excel in the sport.  I have been coaching squash full time since 2008.  I have  a loyal following of juniors and adults alike who are drawn to my love of the game and ability to push and encourage my students to excel in their sport.  I emphasize fitness and mental acuity in my coaching –  teaching students not only proper technique, but the proper mind-set and thought process to play winning squash.

Clinics

Clinics are a great option for new players, or players looking to hone a specific skill.  Regularly scheduled clinics include:

Beginner — Beginner Clinics are open to any player who is new to the game and wants to work on basic squash skills, striking the ball consistently, moving on the court, and basic rules of the game. Racquets are provided for those who do not yet have one.

Intermediate — Intermediate clinics are open to any player who can strike the ball consistently, can hit rails and serves regularly but not always with good depth or control, and is starting to use boasts, lobs and drops.  The clinic will work on hitting to length, ball control, court movement and racquet preparation.  This is a great clinic for converted racquetball and tennis players, or those who have picked up squash but have never taken formal lessons.  I am coaching an Intermediate Clinic at Worldgate on Sundays at 2:00.  Register here.

Advanced — Advanced clinics are ideal for players rated 4.0 and higher.  Students will work on hitting shots well under pressure, improving variety and shot selection, deception, court movement, offensive and defensive shots.

Boast and drops — This is a micro-clinic focused on improving drop shots and boasts — increasing touch and improvement placement and training athletes to hit shots from all positions on the court.

Serve and Return — This is a micro-clinic aimed at moving the serve wider and deeper, while providing skills to hit a variety of returns including rails, drops and cross courts.

Rails, rails, rails– This is a micro-clinic focused on the most essential squash shot — the rail.  The clinic will focus heavily on drills to improve touch, depth, and court movement on the rail.

Clinics are $35/per person/per 1.5 hour session

Clinics require a minimum of three people
